School Wellness Policy

Triennial Assessment

Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Cologne Academy participates in School Nutrition Programs and accepts applications for free and reduced-price school meal benefits at any time. Approval is based on a comparison of the household’s income to the current U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) household income guidelines. Schools send an Application for Educational Benefits form to the households of all enrolled students at the beginning of each school year. A letter accompanies the form and explains school meal benefits and how to apply.

Dietary Accommodations
Dietary accommodations are governed by both federal and state regulations.

Procedures
Regulations require that lactose-reduced milk be made available to any student with a written request from a parent or guardian. CA Lactose-Reduced Milk request form.

All other requests for accommodations (Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, etc.) require a written statement from a licensed physician using the form below. The statement must include both the items the student cannot eat and the items that may be substituted for it. Return original, completed Special Diet Statement with a Disability (requires a doctor’s signature) to the school nurse or Food Service Coordinator.

Special Diet Statement

Cologne Academy has increased physical activity breaks incorporated throughout the school day using active classroom techniques throughout the school and increased recess time for K-4 grade. All students are actively participating in a high quality physical education program and after school program offerings and participation have grown. We support healthy eating by students by providing meals that comply with current USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans and encourage parents to pack healthy lunches and snacks, refraining from including beverages and foods without nutritional value. Cologne Academy discourages the use of foods or beverages as rewards. Cologne Academy sees the importance of overall wellness in students and work towards teaching strategies to encourage lifelong health and wellness.
